Mrs. Sophie Hayhurst

Sophie Hayhurst is the Life Science and Agricultural Science teacher at Sequatchie County High School. Originally from Austin Texas, Sophie earned her Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Science from Texas A&M University and her Masters of Science in Agriculture with an Emphasis in Adult Education from Texas A&M University at Kingsville. Sophie grew up riding horses, was an active member in her High School FFA Chapter, and a previous collegiate polo player at Texas Tech University. Her love for learning, livestock, and horses led her to pursue a career in an agricultural science to teach secondary students about the industry that feeds the world.

In addition, Sophie is one of the FFA Advisors at Sequatchie County High School. As a previous FFA member, competitor, and officer, she coaches a variety of individual and teams that build public speaking, leadership and career skills. The competitions Sophie trains students for are Creed Speaking, Employment Skills, Agricultural Sales, Marketing Plan, Prepared Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Poultry Evaluation, and Veterinary Medical Applications.

Sophie and her husband reside in Dunlap where they enjoy riding their horses, engaging in outdoor activities, and cooking.
