• A calming room is "a space that is meant to be a supportive therapeutic environment which assists children in self-calming efforts by offering them a designated space to relax and self-regulate". Our district has worked with students so that they know a calming room is a place where they can go to "cool down" if they feel irritated, anxious, or upset. They have been taught that they can help themselves and others by deescalating to think about how they are feeling before making a decision.
